When your property is for sale or rent the first thing to do is stop viewing it as your home. It is now a product that you are selling.
De-personalisation should begin with restyling. Ensure the colour scheme is light and clean with no peeling or chips of paint missing. If the rugs are tired and threadbare, replace them now. This is not an added expense as they will be moving with you.
De-clutter now. You will have to start packing at some stage so it may as well be sooner. Just leave one or two of your favourite photos and ornaments and take out all those vases for fresh flowers. Add a few naturally scented candles to each room to light just before a viewing.

If the furniture is old and tired, some throws and new cushions will enliven it. Put a runner and some flowers on the dining table or even set it with your finest china, glassware and cutlery.
First impressions are the most important. Look at the entrance to your property. Would it benefit from a few pots and plants?
Last or maybe it should be first, clean/clean/clean and tidy/tidy/tidy. If your property is dirty and messy the buyer will not see beyond this.
